Solar System Word Search

Light from the Sun takes about eight minutes to reach EARTH, but it needs more than five hours to crawl all the way out to where PLUTO drifts. This puzzle gathers the whole planetary lineup, from scorching MERCURY to icy NEPTUNE, then tosses in a wandering COMET, a stray ASTEROID, and the wider GALAXY we all spin inside. Astronomy teachers can drop it into a unit on the night sky, families can use it after a planetarium visit, and any space-obsessed kid will enjoy spotting JUPITER and SATURN tucked between the letters. Work through it in a browser, where the words you find are matched right on your screen and nothing about your puzzle leaves the device, or print a sheet for a road trip. The full list of solutions sits one tap away if a planet plays hide-and-seek.

FAQ

Common questions

Why is Pluto included if it's no longer called a planet?

Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006, but it's still a famous part of our solar system and a great talking point. Including it lets you explain why astronomers changed the count from nine to eight.

Are the eight major planets all hidden in here?

Every one is present, from MERCURY closest to the Sun out to NEPTUNE. The grid also adds a COMET, an ASTEROID, and GALAXY for a little extra cosmic variety.

Could this help my class remember the order of the planets?

It's a solid memory warm-up since locating each name reinforces the spelling. Try a mnemonic like 'My Very Educated Mother' alongside it to lock in the sequence.
